The things we leave behind

Borzoi Book Club Review:

This was an absolutely fantastic read. A very deep and complex, interesting plot as well as very interesting characters to boot. It is set in a time of civil war in London, after years of an authoritarian regime and the two protagonists, Claem and Billie, set out to Scotland pretty much unarmed. This book’s theme is mostly of the current refugee problems and, while I enjoyed reading it, it contains profanity, violence and war. Definitely not for the young reader.

How I Live Now meets Exodus – a startling YA dystopia that imagines London as the epicentre of the refugee crisis, from critically acclaimed author Clare Furniss.   Civil unrest in London has reached an all-time high after years of a growing authoritarian regime, and it’s no longer safe for Clem and her half-sister Billie in the city. Clem tells of their treacherous journey to Scotland, by road and then by sea, fleeing with nothing but a notebook filled with stories and memories of home.
